The nutri-bio team use the Safe Sludge Matrix as a pre-requisite
for all biosolids applications.
The Safe Sludge Matrix is an agreement between
Water UK and the British Retail Consortium (BRC). It consists of a
table of the crop types, together with clear guidance on the minimum
acceptable standards of biosolids, which may be applied to a
particular crop or rotation.
 The agreement was driven by the desire to ensure the highest possible
standards of food safety and provide a framework that gives the
retailers and food industry confidence that biosolids reuse on
agricultural land is safe.
The matrix enables farmers and growers to
continue to utilise the beneficial properties in biosolids as a
valuable and cost effective source of nutrients and organic matter.
Biosolids Recycling Assurance & Sustainable Solutions (BRASS)
illustrates the fundamentals, which the Anglian Water biosolids
recycling team follow to ensure a consistently high level of
performance.
